Convert PDF to PowerPoint

PDF to Presentation imports a PDF into LibreOffice Impress and returns a PPTX, PPT or ODP file. Treat it as a draft: fonts may be substituted and objects approximated, so proof it before presenting.

Drag and drop files here, or click to choose

Accepts PDF · up to 500.0 MB per file · up to 20 files at once

You can also paste a file with Ctrl/Cmd+V, or from the clipboard menu.

PDF to Presentation sends the file through LibreOffice Impress (`impress_pdf_import`) and returns `pptx`, `ppt`, or `odp`. The portal default is `pptx`. Anything outside those three `outputFormat` values is rejected.

Impress imports PDF pages as a deck-shaped Office file. It is not a redesign of your slides, not a one-page-one-master rebuild, and not OCR. Image-only scans become pictures on slides.

Expect broken animations (there were none in the PDF), substituted fonts, and objects that Impress guessed as shapes or images. Proof the deck before you present it.

Password-protected files are unlocked for you on this page once you enter the password; API callers run Unlock first. OCR Markdown cannot be sent here.

The download is named after your upload with the new extension, so `quarterly-review.pdf` returns `quarterly-review.pptx`. Each request starts LibreOffice with its own throwaway profile directory, so no settings or fonts from an earlier job carry over.

Choose the format by what opens it next. PPTX is the default and the usual choice for PowerPoint. ODP is the native Impress format and suits a LibreOffice-only workflow. PPT is the older binary format, which is only worth picking if a legacy program insists on it.

If what you really need is the words, a deck is the wrong destination. PDF to Text pulls the existing text layer, PDF to Markdown keeps headings and lists, and PDF to Word gives a flowing document instead of slide-shaped objects.

Features

  • LibreOffice `impress_pdf_import` to pptx, ppt, or odp
  • Not OCR and not a slide-design engine
  • outputFormat required; portal default pptx
  • Anonymous API at /api/v1/convert/pdf/presentation

When to use this tool

  • Get a rough PPTX from a text-layer PDF handout
  • Move a PDF one-pager into Impress for further editing
  • Produce ODP when the next tool is LibreOffice-only
  • Recover a few diagrams from an exported PDF by copying objects out of the imported slides
  • Reuse a vendor datasheet page as a starting point for your own internal slide

How do I convert a PDF to PowerPoint?

  1. Upload a PDF. Scans will import as images on slides.
  2. Keep PPTX or choose PPT / ODP.
  3. Click Process and download the Office file.
  4. Open it in PowerPoint or LibreOffice Impress and check each slide.
  5. Before presenting, step through every slide for overlapping text boxes, replaced fonts and pictures where you expected editable text, then save a copy under a new name.
  6. If the result is unusable, compare it against the PDF page by page. Pages that came through as pictures cannot be fixed in the deck, so rebuild those from the source document instead.

Limits and edge cases

  • Not a faithful slide reconstruction
  • Not OCR
  • Password-protected files need the password; API callers run Unlock first
  • Only the three formats pptx, ppt and odp are accepted; anything else is rejected
  • The import is a best-effort guess made by LibreOffice, and the result may differ between a PDF made from slides and a PDF made from a word processor
  • Upload limit on this website: 500 MB per file, sent in chunks above about 95 MB. A single direct API request body is capped at 100 MB.

Examples

  • A 10-page text handout often becomes a 10-slide PPTX with mixed text and images
  • A photographed whiteboard PDF becomes slides that are mostly pictures
  • Uploading `board-update.pdf` with outputFormat set to odp returns `board-update.odp`, which opens in Impress for editing
  • Calling the API with outputFormat=key fails with a bad-request error that names the allowed formats, so fix the value rather than retrying

Privacy for this tool

Files are uploaded over HTTPS, processed in memory or a short-lived temporary directory on our servers, and deleted when your result is ready. We do not keep copies for later browsing, training, or advertising profiles. See the Privacy Policy for retention details and AdSense cookie disclosures.

Frequently asked questions

Will each PDF page become a slide?
Usually Impress maps pages into a deck, but layout is a guess. Do not assume masters, notes, or transitions survive.
Can I edit text on the slides?
When the PDF had real text, some runs stay editable. Many pages import as images or grouped drawing objects.
Does this OCR a scan into bullet points?
No. Use OCR to Markdown if you need the words, then build slides yourself.
Why did conversion fail?
soffice rejected the file, the format was not ppt/pptx/odp, or the PDF is encrypted. Enter its password when the page asks; API callers run Unlock first.
What error do I see if LibreOffice cannot read my file?
The request is rejected with the message "LibreOffice could not read this file as a PDF." That usually means the upload is damaged or is not a real PDF. Run Repair on it and try again.
Which output should I pick, PPTX, PPT or ODP?
Pick PPTX for PowerPoint, ODP for LibreOffice Impress, and PPT only for a program that cannot open the newer formats. The conversion path is the same; only the saved format differs.
Can I call the API without outputFormat?
No. The server answers with a bad-request error saying outputFormat is required, and an unsupported value gets an error that lists the allowed ones: pptx, ppt and odp. The web page always sends pptx unless you change it.
Is there a better tool if I only want the text of a slide handout?
Yes. PDF to Text extracts the existing text layer without building slides, and PDF to Markdown keeps structure such as headings and lists. Neither produces slides.
