File to PDF converts Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument, RTF and plain-text files to PDF with LibreOffice. Layout follows LibreOffice's import, so it can differ from Microsoft Office.

File to PDF sends an office document through LibreOffice (`soffice --convert-to pdf`). The website accepts Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument, RTF, and `.txt`. Anything LibreOffice cannot open will fail.

This is not a universal file converter. Executables, random binaries, and formats soffice does not import are rejected or produce garbage. Macros are not a feature; do not upload documents whose macros you do not trust.

Layout follows LibreOffice's import of that format, then its PDF export. Excel print areas, PowerPoint notes, and Word tracked changes may not look like the source app. Encrypted office files often fail until opened and re-saved locally. Linked external resources, such as remote images and linked files in Office and OpenDocument documents, are removed before conversion, so they are missing from the PDF.

PDFs are the wrong input; they are already PDF. Images should use Images to PDF. Ebooks should use Ebook to PDF.

How do I convert a Word document to PDF?

  1. Upload a .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, OpenDocument, .rtf, or .txt file.
  2. Click Process. There are no page-size options on this page.
  3. Download the PDF.
  4. Check page breaks against the original app's print preview.

Limits and edge cases

  • Only formats soffice imports
  • No print-area or paper-size fields
  • Macros and encryption in the office file often fail
  • Upload limit on this website: 500 MB per file, sent in chunks above about 95 MB. A single direct API request body is capped at 100 MB.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a PDF here?
No. This path is office-to-PDF. PDF inputs belong on other tools.
Why did my XLSX become many blank pages?
LibreOffice prints sheets by its own page setup. Set print area in Excel and re-export, or crop after.
Are macros executed?
Do not rely on that. Treat this as an untrusted conversion sandbox and strip macros before upload if they matter.
Is .txt wrapped or one long page?
Whatever LibreOffice's text import does. Check the PDF; this tool does not expose wrapping options.
