Remove Image deletes every raster image from a PDF, including images inside form XObjects and inline images. Text, vector graphics and page sizes stay, and the page count is unchanged.

Image data is dropped from the file, so illustrated or scanned files usually get smaller. Pages that are nothing but an image, such as a scan with no text layer, come out blank.

It runs on every page; there is no page range and there are no options. Page content that cannot be parsed is rejected with an invalid-PDF error.

Password-protected files are unlocked for you on this page once you enter the password; API callers run Unlock first. To keep the pictures instead, use Extract Images; to turn pages into pictures, use PDF to Images; to drop whole pages, use Remove Pages.

How do I remove images from a PDF?

  1. Upload the PDF and enter its password if the page asks for one.
  2. Click Process. There are no options; every page is processed.
  3. Download the PDF and check that each page still makes sense without its pictures.
  4. Keep the original: removed images cannot be restored from the result.

Limits and edge cases

  • No page range: all pages are processed
  • Scans with no text layer come out blank
  • Photos and logos that are raster images are removed alike; vector artwork stays
  • Removed images cannot be recovered from the output
  • Upload limit on this website: 500 MB per file, sent in chunks above about 95 MB. A single direct API request body is capped at 100 MB.

Frequently asked questions

Does Remove Image keep the text?
Yes. Only raster images are removed; text and vector drawings stay where they were.
Can I remove images from one page only?
No. Every page is processed.
Why is my scanned PDF blank after this?
A scan is one image per page. With the image gone and no text layer beneath it, the page is empty. Use OCR to Markdown first if you need the words.
Will the file get smaller?
Usually, because the image data is deleted from the file, not just hidden.
Is this the same as Compress?
No. Compress recompresses streams and keeps every image; Remove Image deletes them.
