Edit a PDF's Title and Author

Edit Metadata writes a new title and author into a PDF's document information dictionary and returns the updated file. A field left empty is left unchanged, and XMP metadata is not rewritten.

Drag and drop files here, or click to choose

Accepts PDF · up to 500.0 MB per file · up to 20 files at once

You can also paste a file with Ctrl/Cmd+V, or from the clipboard menu.

Update Metadata writes PDF Info dictionary keys when you send them: Title, Author, and also Subject, Keywords, Producer if present in the request. The website only exposes title and author. Empty omitted fields are left unchanged; the code sets a key only when the parameter exists.

This is the document Info dict, not XMP. Viewers that show XMP-only metadata may still display old Dublin Core. Password-protected files are unlocked for you on this page once you enter the password; API callers run Unlock first.

Producer is not forced to PDF123 unless you send that field via the API.

Get Info reads back FileSize, PageCount, Encrypted, Info, Version. `IsSigned` from Get Info is always false and is not a substitute for Validate Signature.

Features

  • Writes Info Title/Author (and API Subject/Keywords/Producer)
  • Website fields are title and author only
  • Not XMP; not a signature stamp
  • Anonymous API at /api/v1/misc/update-metadata

When to use this tool

  • Put a real title on an office export before filing
  • Set Author on a packet you produced
  • API-set Producer when you need that Info key

How do I change a PDF's title and author?

  1. Upload a PDF.
  2. Fill title and/or author. Leave a box empty to skip that key.
  3. Click Process and download the PDF.
  4. Check Document Properties. XMP-only viewers may still show the old title.

Limits and edge cases

  • Info dict only, not XMP
  • No date fields on the website
  • Password-protected files need the password; API callers run Unlock first
  • Upload limit on this website: 500 MB per file, sent in chunks above about 95 MB. A single direct API request body is capped at 100 MB.

Examples

  • Filling Title replaces /Title in Info
  • Leaving Author blank does not delete an existing /Author

Frequently asked questions

Does this clear all metadata?
No. It only sets keys you send. Sanitize is the tool that strips categories of metadata.
Why does a viewer still show the old title?
It may be reading XMP. This op updates the Info dictionary.
Can I set dates?
Not on this form. The Rust setter list is Author, Title, Subject, Keywords, Producer.
Will this make Get Info report IsSigned true?
No. Get Info hard-codes IsSigned to false.
