Convert Word Documents to PDF
Word to PDF converts a DOCX, DOC, ODT or RTF document into a PDF with LibreOffice. Layout follows LibreOffice's import of the file, so check the pages against Word's print preview.
Drag and drop files here, or click to choose
Accepts DOCX, DOC, ODT, RTF · up to 500.0 MB per file · up to 20 files at once
You can also paste a file with Ctrl/Cmd+V, or from the clipboard menu.
Word to PDF sends your document through LibreOffice (`soffice --convert-to pdf`). It accepts .docx, .doc, .odt and .rtf, and the download is named after your file with a .pdf extension. Page size comes from the document, not from a setting on this page.
Layout follows LibreOffice's import of the Word file and then its PDF export, so it is close to what Word prints but not identical. Tracked changes, unusual fonts and complex tables are where differences show up. Compare the PDF with Word's print preview before you send it.
Links to external resources, such as remote pictures and linked files, are removed before conversion, so a picture that is only linked and not embedded will be missing from the PDF. Embed it in the document first.
A file LibreOffice cannot read can still return a short or blank PDF with a success response. In a test, a text file named .docx came back as one blank page. Always open the result and check the page count. Macros are not run as a feature, and encrypted documents often fail until you open and re-save them without a password.
This page converts one document at a time. To combine several, convert each and then use Merge. For a spreadsheet use Excel to PDF, and for slides use PowerPoint to PDF.

Frequently asked questions
- Will the PDF look exactly like my Word document?
- Close, but not identical. LibreOffice imports the file and exports the PDF, so fonts, spacing, tracked changes and complex tables can differ from Word. Check the result against Word's print preview.
- Why are pictures missing from my PDF?
- Links to external resources are removed before conversion. If a picture is linked rather than embedded, it does not appear. Embed the picture in the document and convert again.
- Why did I get a blank page?
- A file LibreOffice cannot parse can still produce a one-page PDF with a success response. Open the document in Word; if it does not open there, repair or re-save it and upload again.
- Can I convert several Word files at once?
- This page takes one document at a time. Convert each file, then use Merge to join the PDFs in upload order.
- What is the PDF called?
- The download is named after the uploaded file with a .pdf extension, so report.docx becomes report.pdf.
